Ted (2012) is a hilarious buddy film centered around crude humor, childhood friendships and growing up. The film features Mark Wahlberg as John Bennett and the voice talent of Seth MacFarline, best known for his work on Family Guy, as the voice of Ted.
The movie is equipped with a lot of talent and tells a funny story of John and Ted growing up together. The story tends to fall flat when it dips into the cliche plot line of buddy comedies that have them break up and be really mad at each other for a while only for them to get back together for a glorious finale of the climax of the movie. There is not much to spoil other than that, but the relentless jokes that don’t hold back and show no mercy make up for the disengaging plot line.
The plot line, though thin and cliche, does keep the story very simple and easy to follow along too, which is understandable considering that the audience the movie is pandering too are most likely people indulging in a good time of marijuana and just looking for something to laugh at while they eat Doritos. The jokes are unexpected and make the movie a good time to watch, whether you are under the influence or not. It has it’s emotional parts as it does deal with relationships and growing up, taking on some real issues that come with that.
Despite the cute, cuddly Teddy bear, this is not a kids movie and should not be treated as such. If you are a person who is not pleased or entertained by unfiltered, vulgar comedy, aimed at adults, this movie may not be for you. However, if you are like me, and are looking for an easy laugh and enjoy the style of things like Family Guy and Rick and Morty, this movie will defiantly give to you what you seek.
I give it a 7/10 and cannot wait to watch the next one, with my fingers crossed that they make more.
